Daniel Bio

Daniel Doherty has 30 years experience of strategy and organisation development consulting and executive coaching to blue chip corporations across a wide diversity of countries and cultures.

He has a powerful track record in innovating strategy and people development processes designed to ensure the human side of organisation is aligned with business purpose. He has travelled widely across Asia Pacific for a variety of major strategy assignments; and lived and worked in South Africa between 1993-1998, working at executive team level with a variety of corporates as well as with the transitional government.

Since his return to Europe Daniel has mixed organisation consulting and coaching with business school teaching for mid-career professionals. In 2004 he joined the University of Bristol to satisfy a long held ambitions to complete a doctorate researching the practice of management consultants and coaches. This doctorate was designed to be widely read and to be influential to the practice of those on the sharp end. To that end it has proved most gratifying to have practicing managers and professionals – including coaches – actively engaging with this research and using the findings to enrich their practice.

Daniel’s practice includes his traditional customer base such as a change management consulting to a major banking group; and has recently diversified into consulting to the public sector organisations in education, local government and health. For example he held the role of Chair of the Change Steering Group for the Arts and Humanities Research Council, where he also coached members of the executive team as they faced the challenges of delivering economic impact and knowledge transfer to a sceptical public.

For the past thirteen years, Daniel has chaired the acclaimed Critical Coaching Group, based in Bristol. The longevity of this group is testament to the power of fostering critical inquiry in the face of pressures to commercialise coaching practice around prevailing fads and fashions. www.criticalcoaching.com
